Recap of this Year's Events

Texas Council staff and members of the Board of Directors participated in The National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare's Sixth Annual Public Policy Institute and Hill Day.

From June 29 - 30, 2010, almost 500 National Council members gathered in the nation's capital to meet with legislators and advocate on behalf of people with mental illness and substance addictions.

Hill Day participants also attended seminars on healthcare reform, applying for Federal grants, congressional advocacy, Medicare/Medicaid related topics and parity implementation.

The National Council honored seven legislators for their efforts on behalf of those with mental illness and substance addictions. Notably, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) received the prestigious Behavioral Health Champion Award for her outstanding leadership in integrating behavioral health services into the broader healthcare system.

The National Council also recognized some of its members for their outstanding support of Hill Day 2010. Texas Council received the Largest Board Delegation award for their strong showing on behalf of the people in our system of care.
